Hundreds of Youth to Receive Backpacks Filled with School Supplies

What: Two hundred and fifty children from San Diego Youth Services will receive a donation of backpacks and essential school supplies from Henry Schein Orthodontics in Carlsbad. The children, headed to kindergarten through 8th grade in schools across the county, are participating in San Diego Youth Services’ Adoptions and Prevention and Early Intervention programs. Part of Henry Schein Inc.’s annual “Back to School” program, the event also includes food, games, crafts and a petting zoo.

“The youth and their families are excited to receive backpacks and school supplies, and they’re so grateful to the team at Henry Schein for their generosity,” said Walter Philips, San Diego Youth Services CEO. “The Back to School event is a great way to help them start the new school year just like the other children in the classrooms.”

Why: Since the program’s inception in 1998, Team Schein Members around the world have helped more than 50,000 children head back to school ready for success. In addition to classroom essentials, Henry Schein donates books and hygiene products, and at many program events, first-day-of-school outfits purchased by Team Schein Members. The “Back to School” program is a flagship initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program.
